It was announced on 16 May 2019 that the council would develop multiple guidelines on sexual offences starting with rape, sexual assault and indecent images of children.

Sentence discounting

After the completion of stage 7, all approved guidelines move onto stage 8, the monitoring and review stage.

 
Guidelines approved by the High Court


Principles and purposes of sentencing (30 October 2018) came in to effect on 26 November 2018.

The sentencing process guideline (15 July 2021) will come in to effect 22 September 2021.

Sentencing young people guideline (9 November 2021) will come in to effect on 26 January 2022.


Notes

In its latest business plan the Council announced that its focus will turn to offence guidelines and confirmed its intention to prepare a sentencing guideline on domestic abuse offences.

Work will continue on the development of guidelines for death by driving, the sexual offences of rape, indecent images of children, and sexual assault, as well as on sentence discounting. It is also planned to resume work on an environmental and wildlife offences guideline.
