The term of appointment of the present advocate member of the Council will end in October of this year. Applications are therefore invited for the advocate member position on the Council. We welcome and encourage applications from the widest possible range of eligible persons, and particularly from protected groups covered by the Equality Act 2010.
Judicial and legal members are appointed by the Lord Justice General following consultation (see the legislation). Individuals wishing to register their interest in judicial or legal membership in the future, should contact the Council Secretariat.
Lay members are appointed by the Scottish Ministers following consultation. Individuals wishing to register their interest in lay membership should contact the Scottish Government Criminal Justice Division.
The position of Council chair is filled by the Lord Justice Clerk (LJC) by virtue of the office. The LJC is nominated by the First Minister taking account of recommendations made by a selection panel.
The prosecutor member is nominated by the Lord Advocate and appointed by the Lord Justice General.
