Constable member appointed to the Scottish Sentencing Council

3rd July 2024

Deputy Chief Constable Bex Smith has been appointed as the Council’s new constable member.

DCC Smith brings a wealth of experience to the Council with over twenty years of policing experience drawn from a range of nationally significant command functions. She has executive responsibility for Crime and Operational Support. Within her portfolio, DCC Smith holds responsibility for Major Crime, Public Protection, Local Crime, Organised Crime, Counter Terrorism, Intelligence and Operational Support.

Lady Dorrian, the Lord Justice Clerk and Chair of the Council, welcomed DCC Smith, saying: “Her extensive policing experience will bring valuable expertise to our work as we prepare our next set of guidelines and the development of our 2024-27 Business Plan.

Lady Dorrian added: “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our former constable member Deputy Chief Constable Malcolm Graham. We are grateful to him for the significant contribution made to the Council’s work during his time with us.”

DCC Smith said: “I’m enthusiastic to lead policing’s contribution to the important work of the Sentencing Council.”

She replaces Deputy Chief Constable Malcolm Graham as the constable member to the Council following his retirement.

Deputy Chief Constable Bex Smith has been appointed for a five-year term and will serve on the Council until June 2029.
