Council launches newsletter on sentencing

Engagement
31st August 2023

The Scottish Sentencing Council is pleased to introduce the first edition of its newsletter to keep stakeholders and the public up-to-date on its work.

The Spotlight on Sentencing Circular will offer news and information on sentencing across Scotland, as well as details about the work of the Council and the sentencing guidelines currently in development.

The focus of the first edition is the Council’s causing death by driving guideline, which has now been finalised and will soon be considered for approval by the High Court.

The newsletter also contains information on the appointment of new members to the Council and the launch of several research projects.

Going forward, it will provide updates on the sentencing guidelines currently in development, including guidelines on rape, indecent images of children, domestic abuse, sentence discounting, and environmental and wildlife crime.

The first edition of the circular can be found here.

Anyone interested in signing up to the newsletter, should email sentencingcouncil@scotcourts.gov.uk with NEWSLETTER in the subject line.
