The following accounts are managed by the secretariat during office hours.

Posts will cover a range of Council related content and include:

  • news releases
  • information on sentencing
  • publications
  • consultations
  • engagement events
  • policy development
  • recruitment

Re-posts and likes

Re-posts will cover a range of sentencing-related content and include:

  • updates from professional bodies, such as the Scottish Government, Scottish Parliament and COPFS, around sentencing policy
  • relevant posts from other sentencing bodies, such as the Sentencing Council for England and Wales
  • sentencing statements posted on the judiciary.scot website
  • general news about sentencing policy in Scotland and elsewhere
  • relevant, high-level operations information from SCTS
  • Council mentions, where appropriate
  • relevant posts made by other organisations and individuals from the legal and justice sector and beyond (These may include individuals or organisations carrying out activity within, or relating to, the criminal justice system, such as, Police Scotland, the Scottish Prison Service, Community Justice Scotland, as well as Council members, universities, academics, educational bodies, research bodies, lawyers, international sentencing bodies, and media/journalists.)

It may be helpful to add comment when reposting, to provide clarity, education/information, or promote/link to the Council’s work.

We will not automatically follow anyone who follows us. Being followed, or having posts reposted or liked by the Council on any social media platform does not imply an endorsement of any kind.

Our social media accounts will follow and repost organisations or individuals of relevance to the justice system and the Council in particular. We will cease to follow accounts we believe to be malicious, spam or inappropriate.

Contact

The Council will not necessarily answer messages through social media platforms and sending messages to us publicly or privately via social media will not be considered official contact with the Council. 

Response

We will not automatically respond to posts directed to the Council. We may respond either openly or privately to provide factual information or guidance.

Availability

Social media platforms may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for a lack of service due to the downtime of the platform.

Security

We will change our social media platform passwords regularly using strong passwords.
