The Council’s inaugural meeting was held in Parliament House on 14 December when members laid the ground for future work, including an agreement to consult fully on sentencing guidelines.

The Council was yesterday hailed as a milestone in the justice system at an event to mark its official launch.

A very new sentencing council for Scotland is officially established today with members being announced.

Members of the public interested in learning more about the Scottish Sentencing Council are invited to attend a Doors Open Day event on Saturday 26 September.

Solicitors and advocates interested in assisting in the development of sentencing policy and the preparation of guidelines for the Scottish courts are being invited to apply to become legal members of the Scottish Sentencing Council.
