New constable member appointed

Council activity - engagement
5th December 2016

Deputy Chief Constable Iain Livingstone has been appointed as the Council’s new constable member.

DCC Livingstone is deputy to the Chief Constable with overall responsibility for operational policing in Scotland. He joins the Council for a three year period.

Council Chair Lady Dorrian, the Lord Justice Clerk, welcomed DCC Livingstone, saying: “His extensive policing experience will bring valuable expertise to our work as we prepare our first guidelines on the principles and purposes of sentencing and on sentencing young people. This will be followed by our first offence-specific guidelines on death by driving and wildlife and environment crime.

“I welcome DCC Livingstone to the Council and look forward to working with him.”

Chief Constable Phil Gormley also congratulated DCC Livingstone on his appointment, saying: "He is extremely well thought of both nationally and internationally in the criminal justice area. His previous legal background, coupled with his wealth of policing experience, will benefit the advisory body in their preparation of sentencing guidelines for the Scottish courts."

The constable member is nominated by Police Scotland and appointed by the Scottish Ministers. He replaces Assistant Chief Constable Val Thomson following her retirement from the post.
