The Council launched its Business Plan today announcing the areas its first guidelines will cover including sentencing death by driving, and environment & wildlife offences.  The Council will also begin research into the sentencing of sexual offences.

The Council has established two committees to take communications and research work forward. They will support work promoting awareness and understanding of sentencing, and facilitate research on a range of sentencing matters.

Around 80 organisations and individuals gathered at a conference in Edinburgh on Friday, 22 June, to share their views on the sentencing of sexual offences and help inform the Council’s work.

The Communications Committee held its inaugural meeting on 13 October when it appointed Sheriff McFadyen (sheriff member) as the Chair.

The Council’s solicitor member, John Scott QC, has been elected president of the Society of Solicitor Advocates.
