Sentencing young people guideline comes into effect

A NEW sentencing guideline developed by the Scottish Sentencing Council comes into effect in all courts in Scotland today (Wednesday, 26 January 2022).

The High Court of Justiciary has today approved a new sentencing guideline developed by the Scottish Sentencing Council, which seeks to reduce reoffending among young people.

In a hearing held this morning, three judges of the High Court approved the guideline and confirmed that it will come in to effect for all courts in Scotland from Wednesday 22nd September 2021.
