First sentencing guidelines announced

The Council launched its Business Plan today announcing the areas its first guidelines will cover including sentencing death by driving, and environment & wildlife offences.  The Council will also begin research into the sentencing of sexual offences.

The Council has started work on what format our sentencing guidelines should take.  Principal Research Officer Andrew Bell has been looking at styles from around the world with a view to developing the best suited to Scotland.  Read his blog to learn more. 

David Harvie appointed as new prosecutor member

Crown Agent David Harvie has been appointed as the Council’s new prosecutor member.

 

Research proposals welcome

The Council is working towards publishing its first three-year Business Plan this autumn and a key strand of this will be our role in researching sentencing practice throughout Scotland. To take this forward, we are keen to hear from interested researchers and academics who specialise in any aspect of the sentencing process.

NASC conference
