Research proposals welcome
The Council is working towards publishing its first three-year Business Plan this autumn and a key strand of this will be our role in researching sentencing practice throughout Scotland. To take this forward, we are keen to hear from interested researchers and academics who specialise in any aspect of the sentencing process.

NASC conference
Council members are to attend an extensive conference on sentencing and policy in the United States next month.

Blog launch
The Council has launched a new blog page to report on issues relating to sentencing practice in more depth, alongside our news items. Our first blog focuses on visits by some of our members to HM Young Offenders’ Institution, Polmont and HM Prison, Low Moss.

Council plays host
The Council hosted visiting colleagues from England & Wales and the Australian states of Victoria & Tasmania at its recent meeting - hearing about different ways to develop an effective work programme at an early stage.

New guideline judgment page
The Council has launched a new resource which brings together guideline judgments issued by the High Court, along with helpful summaries and a selected list of other useful opinions.
