The Council has launched a new blog page to report on issues relating to sentencing practice in more depth, alongside our news items. Our first blog focuses on visits by some of our members to HM Young Offenders’ Institution, Polmont and HM Prison, Low Moss.

The Council hosted visiting colleagues from England & Wales and the Australian states of Victoria & Tasmania at its recent meeting - hearing about different ways to develop an effective work programme at an early stage.

The Council has launched a new resource which brings together guideline judgments issued by the High Court, along with helpful summaries and a selected list of other useful opinions.

The new Council Chair, Lady Dorrian, has been installed as the first female Lord Justice Clerk at a ceremony held at Parliament House.

Lady Dorrian QC has been appointed as the new Lord Justice Clerk which, by virtue of the office, makes her the new Chair of the Council.
